Our Founding

Like many firms, our beginning was small and humble. The Company was founded in 1945 as Eastern Tree and Landscape Corporation of Dedham, Massachusetts. At that time, residential and commercial landscaping made up the majority of work. These early years garnered the work ethic we hold true to today: hard work done well.

Growth and Change

In the 1950s, E.T.& L. began its land clearing division and soon became one of the largest commercial land clearing contractors in New England. The following decade brought involvement in complete site preparation, land development and road construction. This work included excavation, embankments, storm water control and paving in addition to clearing and grubbing. Due to this diversification, the Company changed its name to E.T.& L. Construction Corp. in 1964.

A New Home

In response to the continued growth, E.T.& L. Construction Corp. moved its headquarters and yard facilities to Route 117 in Stow, Massachusetts in 1971. We proudly operate from the same site today. Through the 1970s and early 1980s, E.T.& L. became one of Massachusetts’ most experienced highway, road, and bridge builders. We completed construction and reconstruction on sections of interstate and state highways, as well as rural roadways throughout the Commonwealth. During this time, E.T.& L. also constructed many earthen and rock filled dams.

Focusing on the Environment

In the mid-1980s, E.T.& L. recognized that the volume of State and Federal highway funds were beginning to lessen, thus the Company turned towards the private sector and the emerging work in the environmental field. We undertook dozens of the site preparation projects for private clients and major corporations. Expansions and closures of municipal and private sanitary landfills, along with several wetland restoration and replication projects, became a major part of the Company’s growth. More recently, E.T.& L. continued to develop its expertise in the environmental field, road, bridge work, airports and site development. Also, a portion of our focus turned to site clean-ups, athletic fields, and recreational facilities.

A New(ish) Name

In 1998, E.T.& L. Construction Corp. created a new operating division, E.T.& L. Corp. A history of proven performance, backed by E.T.& L.’s experienced team and versatile equipment, put E.T.& L. at the top of most owners’ preferred list of heavy construction and infrastructure contractors. We are honored by this distinction and recognize that every job won is a sign of the respect that comes from consistently great work.

The Future

We are proud to say that we have loyally served Massachusetts and surrounding communities, both in the public and private sectors, for more than a half-century, always with an eye toward innovation and keeping pace with change. As we move into the future, we are keenly aware of the impact that technology has, but ultimately, it is our people who make us the company we are. Our commitment to them – and “a job well done” – will never change.
