E.T.&L. Corp was awarded the MassDOT contract for the replacement of the bridge spanning the Lawrence River on Northeast Fitzwilliam Road. Work for this contract includes the replacement of the existing steel girder bridge with a precast arch bridge. The existing bridge superstructure will be completely demolished, followed by the partial demolition of the existing stone masonry abutments to provide room for the cast-in-place abutment footings and stems. This will be followed by the installation of the precast arches and wingwalls.
Grading of the slopes on the side of the roadway will be performed with the installation of geosynthetic slopes being installed on the northeast and southwest sides of the bridge. A drainage swale will also be installed on the southeast corner of the bridge in order to collect storm water runoff from the hill on the north side of the bridge. Work began in May 2013 and is scheduled to be completed by May 1, 2014.
