Located over the Taunton River, the Summer Street Bridge spans the town line between Bridgewater and Middleborough, MA. In January 2011, MassDOT awarded E.T.& L. Corp. the contract for its replacement. E.T.& L. began work in the spring of 2011, first demolishing the existent Summer Street bridge structure, then erecting a new single span, precast concrete beam bridge in the same location. The new bridge is an integral abutment bridge with precast concrete abutments, wingwalls, and precast New England Bulb Tee beams. In addition to the bridge replacement, the contract also included the reconstruction of approximately 200 feet of roadway on each side of the bridge. In order to complete this scope of work, the Summer Street was closed during construction, and traffic was detoured around the site. The project was slated to finish on April 28, 2012, but E.T.& L. Corp. opened the road to traffic on December 23, 2011, four months ahead of schedule. The remaining landscaping will be completed in spring 2012.
