In March 2026, E.T.& L. Corp. began construction on MassDOT’s Independence Greenway Extension in Peabody. The $6.1 million project includes a 1.3-mile paved shared-use path with completion projected for Spring 2028. Key elements of the project include new drainage systems and utilities, new paving and overlaying of existing roadways, excavation for a Wetland Replication Area and three flood storage areas to manage local water flow, and installation of two large precast concrete box culverts to divert Proctor Brook under the proposed path. Additionally, construction features a 440-foot multi-span timber bridge boardwalk over the wetlands, which will be supported by geosynthetic reinforced soil bridge abutments with CMU facing elements, as well as helical piles spanning the full length of the structure.
