In February, 2020, MassDOT awarded E.T.& L. Corp. a $2.5 million project to replace 2 bridges on Route 62 (Old Boston Turnpike) over the West Branch Ware River. Work on this project included the demolition, removal, and disposal of the existing culverts; construction of new concrete substructures with cast-in-place spread footings, abutment pedestals, wingwall stems, approach slabs, and precast highway guardrail transitions; constructing a new superstructure with precast concrete rigid frames, superpave wearing surface, and CT-TL2 bridge rail; reconstructing full-depth pavement approaches; installing new highway guard, curbing, and traffic signs; installation of turtle barriers; and other incidental items. The work also included riprap, temporary erosion control measures, control of water, excavation support to facilitate construction, and restoration of the disturbed river streambed. Work was completed on time in October, 2021.
