Location: Holyoke Canal Walk

E.T.& L. Corp. was awarded a $3.5 million contract for Phase II of the Holyoke Canal Walk project by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The Canal Walk is a 9,000 foot long pedestrian walkway along the First and Second Level Canals in the center of the Canal Arts & Industry District in historic downtown Holyoke. Phase II was approximately 3,000 feet and extended the first phase canal walk along Race Street between Dwight Street and Appleton Street and included converting the existing railroad bridge over the Second Level Canal to a pedestrian bridge.

Repairs were made to the bridge abutments, new steel was added to accommodate proposed overlooks to the canal, associated railings were installed and the bridge was painted. Decorative concrete walkways, including overlooks over canal embankment supported by helical piles, were installed. The project also include the construction of a retaining wall, decorative site lighting, benches and other park-like amenities as well as extensive landscaping along the Second Level Canal.
