E.T.& L. Corp. was awarded a $2.5 million project for the Town of Milford in October 2024. Work on this project consists of replacing the existing bridge structure that carries Central Street over the Charles River and reconstructing the approaches to the bridge.
The work includes the demolition and disposal of the existing bridge superstructure and substructure. Work also includes the construction of a new single-span structure utilizing seven (7) prestressed deck beams supporting a 7½” cast-in-place deck with 3” superpave wearing surface. The new superstructure will be supported on new cast-in-place abutments and footings placed in the same location as the existing stone masonry abutments. The Central Street bridge will be closed from early June 2025 through early Fall 2025 to allow for demolition and construction of the new structure. A detour will be in place while the bridge is closed, and the water in the Charles River will be diverted so work can be done in the dry. Temporary earth support will be installed in front of the existing abutments. A 9-conduit electric duct bank will be supported in-place during construction.
The project also requires full depth reconstruction of both approaches, installation of new pavement, granite curb, ADA compliant cement concrete sidewalks and accessible ramps, guardrail, loam and seed, pavement markings, temporary erosion control devices, temporary traffic control, and other incidental items of work. Utility replacements include the water main across the bridge and beyond the approaches, as well as drainage upgrades at both approaches.
This project is expected to be completed in May 2026.
