In April, 2020, E.T.& L. Corp. was awarded a MassDOT project to replace the Route 2 (Mohawk Trail) bridge over Route 202 (Daniel Shays Highway) in Orange, MA. In addition to replacing the Route 2 bridge in its entirety, work also included widening the bridge deck by 23’ to provide eastbound and westbound ramp acceleration/deceleration lanes at the Route 2 / Route 202 interchange, and making pedestrian and bicycle accommodation improvements on Route 202. The vertical clearance of the bridge was also increased to a minimum of 16’-6”. The new bridge structure type is a three-span, continuous steel plate girder structure with stub abutments and “aesthetic piers,” all on spread footings.
