Location: WESTFIELD, MA

In August, 2020, MassDOT awarded E.T.& L. Corp. a five year, $14.8 million project to replace the Southwick Road (Routes 10 & 202) bridge over the Little River in Westfield, MA. The scope of work includes the demolition of the existing bridge W-25-006 (0V7) as follows: the entire superstructure; the entire substructure with the exception of the pier footings. The existing piers will be demolished to 1 foot below the river bed. The existing pier footings shall remain.

The replacement bridge consists of four (4) single span, curved, welded steel box girders with a composite deck supported by conventional abutments sitting on spread footings. The span length is 160′-2¼” along the construction baseline. There will be a 52′ wide roadway with 6′ sidewalks and bridge rails.

US 202/ST 10, Mill Street, and City View Road will be realigned to provide a softer curve along US 202/ST 10, improve the intersections with Mill Street and City View Road, and allow a turning only lane on the northbound side of the US 202/ST 10. The proposed horizontal alignment shifts US 202/ST 10 to the east of the current crossing. Approximately 500 feet on the north and south sides of US 202/ST 10, 425 feet of City View Road, and 500 feet of Mill Street will be milled and overlaid. Approximately 200 feet of new approach guardrails along US 202/ST 10 will be installed.  The project will be constructed in five (5) stages.
